To whom it may concern
For our office Christmas Party 2012 we decided to do something a little special and having been inspired by Gareth Malone and “The Choir” on TV decided to form a workplace choir so that we could perform to our guests and colleagues.
We e mailed the company and asked if anyone would be interested and thankfully received about 30 positive responses.
That was where our lovely Iris came in as our choirmaster.
She was instrumental in finding us a song to sing that we could manage and came to us a couple of times a week at lunchtimes so that we could rehearse.
After a rehearsal you could hear people humming and singing the tune everywhere you went, practicing their part before the next get together !
We actually sounded quite good after our last rehearsal and on the actual performance at the party – nailed it !
Iris throughout was good natured, funny and encouraging.
She is obviously a very talented musician and we gained enormously from her vast experience in performing and organising a choir.
Our lunchtime rehearsals became for most of us the highlight of our busy week,a time when we could mix with colleagues that we didn’t mix with directly on a day to day basis and for us just to enjoy singing and how happy that makes you feel.
It certainly was a terrific morale boost for all concerned – the stresses of work didn’t exist in that hours choir practice.
We enjoyed it so much after our Christmas performance we decided to carry on with the choir.
We are currently working out when we can begin again obviously with Iris at the helm.
If you are thinking of starting a workplace choir I can not recommend her too highly.
She inspired us to do our best and gave us confidence to perform, even to those amongst us who thought that they didn’t really have a voice.
