Iris started off making music in duo with piano. One after the other she added more instruments, starting with the double bass and then drums. Working with a trio and occasionally adding other musicians, she discovered that she especially loved the sound of the flugelhorn and trombones. Since then, Iris has always liked working in different formations, big or small, conventional or otherwise.
In the early stages of her singing career she arranged some old fashioned standards as well as some modern jazz tunes. On her recording 'Iris', planned for release in 2014, she wrote lyrics to Frank Foster's composition "Simone", renaming it "A life that's filled with light", honored the music of Kenny Wheeler with "Sweet Dulcinea Blue" and interpreted Norma Winstone's "Winter Sweet". Iris did not forget her roots, including a piano duet recording of Mingus's "Eclipse" in the repertoire with Stephan Heckl on the keys. Also her modern approach with the loop-machine is demonstrated with her solo rendition of "Wild is the Wind", which led her to the idea of using her voice and loop-machine to develop a full solo program, "me, myself & I". With her very gentle arrangements she makes the music flow, sounding fresh and playful, its lightness almost belying its sophistication, particularly in her arrangements using four trombones and flugelhorn.
