"After I completed my bachelor degree in Jazz singing in 2009, I started leading the KUG (University of Music and Performing Arts Graz) Jazz Choir consisting of students of the jazz department, well-trained solo singers. We could work on a high level, singing difficult harmonies and rhythms whilst keeping the focus on the sound and blending of the choir.
Leading various mixed amateur choirs required other needs from me. They were singing for fun rather than achieving some kind of musical perfection but I tried to push it as far as I could go without reducing their enjoyment. For me having a mixture of fun and aiming for something in the lesson is essential. We were working on different tunes from Ave Maria to Gospel tunes, so that we could sing masses and weddings at church.
In school choirs consisting of pupils from 6 to 10 year olds, my assignment
included listening games in the lesson that would make the children more excited and interested in music overall.
School choir work at the secondary school, which had children aged 10-14, had been installed with me as a leader in 2007. Starting with 11 children the choir increased to 25 this year. We framed most of the school events like masses, official school presentations, church festivals, exhibitions in and outside of school, took part of a choir competition and supported school projects such as “Bratapfelzauber” (on TV) and “Rock & Pop Mass”. The choir would perform styrian folk tunes A cappella as well as pop repertoire with me accompanying them on the piano, the school band or the Pop Big Band led by my colleagues.
I took on the 7-year old Gospel Group Puch in 2003. This 9-women female amateur vocal group mostly singing Gospel tunes were already at good level. Recognising their potential and pushing it forward led to a CD in 2010 featuring a mixture of our repertoire. This featured different songs we used for different events, including weddings, baptisms, charity concerts and at our annual concerts. The arrangements ranged from A cappella tunes to performing with a full band. Our success resulted in a small tour in East Tyrol.

Workshops & Projects:
In 2010 I started a choir festival called “Choir Fire” in my hometown Weiz, including choirs of different styles ranging from pop, jazz, gospel, free improvised to world music choirs. It also included my children’s choir and Vocal groups such as the Styrian Vocal Jazz Quartet, including myself as a singer, who performed with the Big Band Weiz.
The cooperation with the Gerhard Almer, the music school and Manfred Wiener led to the “Rock & Pop” Mass where Pop tunes starting from “Rolling in the deep” to “I feel good” were being performed. Working together with the church, religion teachers or others like sports and painting teachers was a good opportunity to create new interdisciplinary projects.
The “Together” project included musicians from outside the school.
